(By Balachander) General Electric Co.'s (NYSE: GE) Aviation unit has agreed to provide its inertial navigation technology for Boeing Co.'s (NYSE: BA) next-generation satellite communications systems.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
GE Aviation said the inertial reference unit delivers continuous navigation data required for next-generation satellite communication systems in stationary and moving vehicles and aircraft.
According to GE, the inertial reference unit provides the technology to provide orientation and position utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) data for?land vehicle, airborne and seaborne applications for the purposes of surveillance, target acquisition, and satellite antenna pointing.
The reference unit combines inertial data and GPS data to provide the user with high-accuracy continuous location, heading, pitch, and roll data in both stationary and moving vehicles, GE noted.
Under the agreement, GE Aviation will provide inertial reference units for Boeing's wideband phased array satellite communications systems for airborne mobile communications.
On Wednesday, GE shares added 0.53 percent to trade at $23.72, while BA shares traded 0.28 percent higher at $78.88.
