The donation, made possible by Athena and Nicholas Karabots and the Karabots Foundation of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, West Philadelphia will give families greater access to world-class pediatric health care. The contribution is inspired by the couple during the deep desire to make high-quality medical resources available to children of disadvantaged communities.CHOP Pediatric and adolescent care centers in South Philadelphia and Cobbs Creek will remain in their current position. The centers of 39 and Chestnut Street and 3550 Market Street will move to new premises.

In July 2008, the Children?s Hospital announced plans to build the Karabots Pediatric Center in Norristown. Despite the high public support, however, the plans were reluctantly withdrawn several months later. Concerns have arisen between some members of the council that the center does not correspond to the redevelopment of the corridor of Main Street Norristown.

Children?s Hospital of Philadelphia has announced a generous donation of $ 7.5 million that will lead to the creation of a new center for children and teenagers in West Philadelphia. The main health facility will be called Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pediatric & Adolescent Care Center and is part of the CHOP Care Network.

A former shoeshine boy in the South Bronx of New York, Nicholas Karabots rose to prominence in the field of printing and publishing. and its family of Kappa related operations, which include companies involved in the magazine and puzzle books, products, children?s activity books, maps and related printing facilities in several states. Karabots family is well known for their second philanthropy having supported a number of causes that focus on youth and inner cities.

Located on four acres of land in an institution of almost 50,000 square meters, the center will provide the highest level of primary care services for children in West Philadelphia and the rooms are equipped with child-review, radiology, x-ray, hearing and vision test and will be able to treat over 45,000 patients a year.

In addition, the center will provide families with access to programs for children from Community Hospital, including Early Head Start, Reach Out and Read, domestic violence education, medical and home care and education coordination.
